Great Blue Hole, Belize

Today , we are going to start a new trend for the posts during the month of October; we are going to tackle a diving site with each post.

Our First Site is Great Blue Hole in Belize, this site is unique not only because of its diversity of diving adventures that you can have but also because of its geographical and historical uniqueness of this spot.
Do you know that the Great Blue Hole in Belize is the only Blue hole that can be seen from outer space.

Jacques Cousteau described Belize as "one of the four must-dive locations on this blue planet," and a big part of the reason why it is the Great Blue Hole. Located off Ambergris Caye, the Great Blue Hole is a limestone cave system that collapsed into a sinkhole over 122 meters (400 feet deep) and around 300 meters (1000 feet diameter).

Although this abyssal sinkhole is only one dive site, three different kinds of dives are possible there.

Recreational Diving Destination:
The recreational diving have the biggest part of diving excursions to the blue hole... this dive is suitable for AOW and above
depth of this dive will be between 33 and 40 meters (110 and 130 feet) which is accessible for AOW divers with Deep diver speciality. during this dive you will see some corals with the wall of the sink hole sinking down to the buttom no major sea creatures except the occasional encounter of hummerhead and reef Sharks.

Cave Diving:
you can start the cave diving in the blue hole starting 40 meters (130 feet) , Recreational diver can do a cave penetration but due to buttom time limit they can only visit the uppermost cavern. Advanced open water training or above and Cave diving speciality are needed for a diver to be able to dive the caverns and stalactites of the blue Hole.
Deeper penetration, longer stay stay and cavern opening below 42 meters (135 feet) are strictly for Technical divers.

The Buttom:
This is a special type of challenge for technical divers to have this special so called "death defying dive" to the buttom of the blue hole 125 meters (412 feet) . These kind of dives should be booked by private charter as it need special preparation and are not given by normal diving charters.

The Great Blue Hole in Belize is one dive that must be done at least once in your life...
